SONA Did Not Seek IRB Approval for Posting Directions from Airport to Conference Center

NEW ORLEANS (RPT) – SONA Systems provided students arriving at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport for the Society for Personality and Social Psychology conference with directions from the airport to the conference center via Twitter. However, an undercover RPT reporter discovered that SONA failed to submit an IRB request for providing these directions.

Conference goers are concerned that this sets a precedent for future communications via social media. “How am I supposed to know if the proper process has been followed by institutions like SONA when they tweet information like this?” said a graduate student who elected to remain anonymous. This graduate student also expressed concern that, “...without proper IRB approval for tweets like this, we could descend into a cesspool of direction-related misinformation.”

While the directions appear to be correct, we caution those arriving at the airport to remain vigilant and avoid any unsolicited tweets.
